An announcement is a one-way message to everyone enrolled in a course: a cancelled lecture, a moved deadline, a reminder. The course’s Owner, Teachers and Assistants can post them. For a conversation students can reply to, start a discussion instead.

Post one

1

Start a new announcement

In the sidebar, choose Announcements, then New.
2

Choose the course

Pick the Course it’s for.
3

Write it

Enter a Subject, such as “Week 2 quiz is open”. Add more details below it, if you need to.
The New announcement form with a course, the subject Week 2 quiz is open, and a short message

An announcement for Introduction to Psychology, ready to post.

4

Post it

Choose Post announcement. The announcement opens, and your students can now read it.

The posted announcement.

Edit or delete it

Open the announcement and choose ⋮:
  • Edit changes the subject and message. Choose Save changes. The course can’t be changed.
  • Delete removes it from the course for good.
Only the person who posted an announcement can edit or delete it. No one else sees the ⋮.

Past announcements

When a course ends, its announcements move to the Past tab on Announcements. They can’t be changed any more, but students can still read them.

Troubleshooting

Only its author can edit an announcement. Ask them to make the change, or post a new one.
The list shows only published courses. A draft has no students yet, so publish it first. A course that has ended can’t take new announcements.
