The agent does its best work from your own material. Attach a PDF of your lecture notes and ask for a quiz, or attach a course outline and ask it to set the course up.

Attach a file from your computer

1

Open the attach menu

Choose + (Attach files) under the message box, then Upload from your computer. You can also drag files onto the message box, or paste them in.
2

Choose up to five files

Pick the files. Each one shows as a small tag above the message box. To take one off before you send, choose the × on its tag.
3

Say what to do with them

Write your request, such as “Make a 10-question multiple-choice quiz from this PDF”, and choose Send. The files go with your message.

What it can read

  • Up to 5 files a message, each under 10 MB.
  • Older Office files (.doc, .xls, .ppt) can’t be read. Open them and save as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx first.
  • Scanned PDFs take longer to read than typed ones.
  • Long documents take longer too. If you only need one chapter or week, say which.
  • Photos can’t be attached in the chat. To turn a photo of a marking scheme into a rubric, use Import from photo in the rubric editor.

Use a course’s study materials

You don’t need to download and re-attach what’s already in a course.
1

Open the attach menu

Choose + (Attach files).
2

Choose the course

If the chat isn’t narrowed to a course yet, the menu lists your courses: “Choose a course to attach one of its study materials.” Picking one also sets the chat’s course.
3

Choose the material

The menu shows the course’s study materials the agent can read, with their sizes. Search by name if the list is long. A material already in the message says Attached.

Save an attached file to a course

Attached a file the class should have too? Ask: “Save this PDF as a study material in PSY 101, in the Week 3 folder.” The agent adds it to the course’s study materials. It only saves files you’ve attached, and it never deletes any.

Troubleshooting

Make the file smaller, for example by saving a PDF at a lower quality, or split it into parts and attach the part you need.
Send five, then attach the rest in your next message.
Open it in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, save it in the newer format (.docx, .xlsx or .pptx), and attach that.
Remove the password, save the file, and attach it again.
Print the PDF to a new PDF (choose Save as PDF in the print dialog) and attach the new file.
The file’s contents don’t match its name. Open it on your computer and save it again in the right format.
The file has nothing in it. Check you picked the right one.
Hover over Send to see why. “Uploading the files” means wait a moment. “Remove the file that couldn’t be attached” means one file has a problem: remove its tag, then send.
