There are two ways to get a Lena account:
  1. Sign up yourself — Create your own account through any Lena app (detailed below)
  2. Your school admin imports you — Your school admin adds you in bulk via Excel import, which automatically creates an account for you. You’ll receive your username and a temporary password from your school admin.
If your school admin has already created your account, skip to Logging in with an admin-created account below.

Signing up yourself

Before you begin: You need an email address you can access to receive your verification code.

Open the signup page

Go to any Lena app and tap or click Create Account (or Sign Up):

Fill in your details

Enter the following information:
  • First name — Your given name
  • Last name — Your surname
  • Email address — Use an email you have access to (this is how you’ll log in)
  • Password — Choose a strong password
After filling in all fields, tap Create Account to submit the form. You’ll be taken to the email verification screen.
A username is created for you automatically. When you sign up, Lena generates a username from the part of your email before the @ symbol. For example, if you sign up with ada.okafor@school.edu, your username becomes ada.okafor. You can log in with either your email or this username.

Verify your email

After submitting the form, Lena sends a 6-digit one-time password (OTP) code to your email address. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email from Lena.Enter the OTP code on the verification screen to activate your account. A confirmation message appears when your account is verified.

The OTP code expires after 10 minutes. If it expires before you enter it, tap Resend OTP to receive a new code.

You're in!

Once your email is verified, you’re logged in and ready to go. You’ll be guided to set up your school profile next.

Logging in with an admin-created account

If your school admin imported you via Excel, your account has already been created. Your admin will provide you with:
  • Username — typically your email prefix, student/staff ID, or firstname.lastname
  • Temporary password — your last name in lowercase (e.g., if your last name is “Okafor”, your password is okafor)

Open the login page

Go to the appropriate Lena app and tap Log In: - Students: student.lena.africa - Teachers: teacher.lena.africa - CBT: cbt.lena.africa

Enter your credentials

Enter your username (or email, if you have one) and your temporary password, then tap Log In.

Change your password

After logging in for the first time, go to your profile settings and change your password to something secure that only you know.
Your temporary password is just your last name — change it as soon as possible to keep your account secure.
If you have an email address on your account, you can also use the Forgot Password flow on the login page to set your own password right away.

What happens after signup

After creating your account (or logging in for the first time with an admin-created account), the next step depends on your role:
  • Students and Teachers: You’ll be asked to search for your school and create a school profile. See School Profiles.
  • School Admins: You’ll be guided through creating your school. See Creating Your School.

Important notes

One account, all apps. Your Lena account works across all four apps. You don’t need to create separate accounts for the Student, Teacher, School Admin, or CBT apps.
Use a real email address. You’ll need access to your email to verify your account and reset your password if needed. School-provided email addresses work great.

Troubleshooting

  1. Check your spam or junk folder 2. Make sure you entered the correct email address 3. Wait a minute and tap Resend OTP 4. If you still don’t receive it, try a different email address or contact support
  • Make sure you’re entering the most recent code (if you requested multiple, only the latest one works) - Check that the code hasn’t expired (10-minute limit) - Tap Resend OTP to get a fresh code
If you’ve already created an account, you don’t need to sign up again. Go to the login page and sign in with your email and password. See Logging In.
  • Confirm your username with your school admin — it may be your email prefix, student/staff ID, or firstname.lastname - Your default password is your last name in lowercase - If that doesn’t work, ask your admin to verify your account was imported successfully - If you have an email on your account, try the Forgot Password flow to set your own password
