Assignments are a key part of your coursework on Lena. Your teacher creates assignments with instructions and deadlines, and you submit your work through the app.
Before you begin: You need to be enrolled in a course that has assignments. See Joining a Course.

Viewing assignments

1

Open your course

Go to the Courses tab and tap the course. You’ll land on the course home screen.
2

Go to Assignments

Tap the Assignments tab. You’ll see two sections:
  • Due — Assignments you haven’t submitted yet (with upcoming deadlines)
  • Submitted — Assignments you’ve already completed
Assignments tab showing due and submitted assignments with titles and deadlines
3

Open an assignment

Tap any assignment to see the full details: instructions, due date, total marks, attachments, and submission options. You’ll see the assignment detail screen with all the information you need.

Assignment details

Each assignment includes:
FieldDescription
TitleName of the assignment
InstructionsWhat your teacher wants you to do
Due dateThe submission deadline
Total marksMaximum points you can earn
TypeOnline (submit through Lena) or Physical (submit in person)
AttachmentsFiles your teacher attached (reference materials, question sheets, etc.)
Physical assignments are handed in during class — your teacher grades them and records the score on Lena. You don’t need to submit anything through the app.

Submitting your work

For online assignments, you submit your work directly through the app. The submission type depends on what your teacher set up:
Write your answer directly in the text editor.
1

Open the assignment

Tap the assignment to view its details. You’ll see the assignment instructions and submission options.
2

Tap Submit

Tap the Submit button to open the submission editor. A text editor will appear where you can write your answer.

Type your response in the text field. Lena supports markdown (a simple text formatting syntax) — you can add headings, bold text, lists, and more.

4

Submit

Review your work and tap Submit. Your submission is recorded with a timestamp. You’ll see a confirmation message, and the assignment moves to the Submitted section.

Late submissions

If you submit after the due date, your submission is marked as late. Whether late submissions are accepted depends on your teacher’s policy.
Always submit before the deadline when possible. Late submissions may receive reduced marks or may not be accepted at all.

Viewing your grade and feedback

After your teacher grades your submission:
  1. Go to the Assignments tab → Submitted section
  2. Tap the assignment to view your submission
  3. You’ll see:
    • Grade — The score your teacher gave you (e.g., 18/20)
    • Feedback — Written comments from your teacher about your work

Read your teacher’s feedback carefully — it tells you what you did well and where you can improve.

Troubleshooting

  • Check if the due date has passed — submissions may be closed - Make sure your file meets size and format requirements - Check your internet connection - If submitting text, make sure the content isn’t empty
  • Refresh the assignments list - Check the Submitted tab — your submission should appear there - If the submission failed, try submitting again
Depending on the assignment settings, you may be able to resubmit. Open the assignment and look for an option to edit or resubmit your work.
