# Lena for Students

> Find your way around Lena for Students: where your courses, work, grades and messages are.

Lena for Students is where your courses live. It has the notes and slides your lecturers share, your assignments,
quizzes and exams, your grades, and your class conversations. Open it on a laptop or a phone at
[student.lena.africa](https://student.lena.africa).

This page uses university words. In a primary or secondary (K-12) school, Lena says "subject" instead of course and
"teacher" instead of lecturer. See [words your school uses](https://support.lena.africa/get-started/words-your-school-uses.md).

## A quick tour

When you open Lena, you land on **Courses**. It lists the courses you're in, with their code, term and lecturer. Open
a course to see everything in it.

Courses is the first thing you see. The sidebar on the left takes you everywhere else.

The sidebar has:

* **Enrol Course**: [join a course](https://support.lena.africa/students/join-a-course.md), from your list or with a code.
* **Search**: jump to any of your courses or any part of Lena. On a laptop, press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> (Mac) or
<kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> (Windows) to open it.
* **Courses**, **Assignment**, **Quiz**, **Exam**, **Grades**, **Discussions**, **Announcements** and **Calendar**: each
one shows that kind of thing from all your courses together.
* **Recents**: the courses, assignments, quizzes and exams you opened last.
* **Get started**: a short checklist for your first days. It helps you join a course, look around it, open your first
piece of work and read a discussion or announcement. It goes away when you've done them all, or when you choose
  **Dismiss checklist**.

Along the top you'll find **Switch school**, the **Inbox** bell for your notifications, and your account menu (your
picture). The account menu has **What's new**, **Settings**, **Send feedback**, **Support** and **Log out**.

### On your phone

On a phone, the sidebar is hidden in a menu. Tap the menu button at the top to open it. **Search** is in there too.
Inside a course, the tabs become a menu at the top of the page.

On a phone, the menu button opens the full sidebar.

To open Lena like an app, add it to your home screen. In your browser's menu, choose **Add to Home Screen** or
**Install app** (the name depends on your browser). See [Lena on your phone and offline](https://support.lena.africa/get-started/phone-and-offline.md).
