# Discussions & Announcements

> How to participate in course discussions, post replies, and stay updated with announcements from your teacher.

Discussions and announcements help you stay connected with your teacher and
classmates within each course.

## Discussions

Discussions are threaded conversations where you can ask questions, share ideas,
and engage with your classmates and teacher.

### Viewing discussions

1. Open your course
2. Tap the **Discussions** tab
3. You'll see a list of discussion threads, each showing the topic title,
   author, and number of replies

### Reading a discussion

Tap any discussion thread to open it. You'll see:

* The **original post** with the topic and full content
* **Comments** from classmates and teachers, displayed in chronological order
* **Replies** to specific comments (nested under the original comment)

### Posting in a discussion

You can contribute to discussions in several ways:

  <Tab title="Start a new discussion">
    1. Go to the **Discussions** tab
    2. Tap **New Discussion** or the **+** button
    3. Enter a **title** and your **message**
    4. Tap **Post**

    <Tip>Write clear, descriptive titles so classmates can find your discussion easily (e.g., "Question about Chapter 3 — Quadratic Equations" instead of "Help please").</Tip>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Comment on a discussion">
    1. Open the discussion thread
    2. Type your comment in the text field at the bottom
    3. Tap **Send** or **Post**
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Reply to a comment">
    1. Find the comment you want to reply to
    2. Tap **Reply** on that specific comment
    3. Type your reply and send it

    Replies appear nested under the original comment, making it easy to follow the conversation.

## Announcements

Announcements are one-way messages from your teacher to the entire class.
They're used for important updates, reminders, and information.

### Viewing announcements

1. Open your course
2. Tap the **Announcements** tab
3. You'll see announcements listed in reverse chronological order (newest first)

### Reading an announcement

Tap an announcement to see the full content. Announcements may include:

* Text content with important information
* Links or references to other resources
* Reminders about upcoming deadlines

<Note>
  Announcements are posted by your teacher. Students cannot create
  announcements — use discussions for questions and conversations.
</Note>

## Staying notified

New discussions and announcements trigger notifications (if you have them
enabled):

* **Push notifications** alert you on your device
* **Activity feed** shows the latest updates across all your courses

  Enable notifications for announcements so you never miss an important update
  from your teacher.
